The Unique Disability ID (UDID) project of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities issues a single nationally-recognised disability card (Swavlamban Card) under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016. The card carries a 18-digit UDID number, the percentage of disability, the type (one of 21 specified conditions) and a QR code. PwDs use the card to claim reservation in education and employment, travel concessions, scheme benefits and assistive devices. Verifying authorities (railways, airlines, transport corporations, scholarship boards) authenticate the card via QR scan or by entering the UDID Number on the portal.
