The Dental Council of India (DCI) is the statutory body under the Dentists Act 1948 that maintains the Indian Dental Register — the master roll of every dentist authorised to practise in India. State Dental Councils are the primary registering authorities; DCI consolidates their records. Verification is critical for hospital empanelment, insurer panels, government recruitment and overseas mobility. The DCI portal lets users search by name or registration number and returns qualification (BDS/MDS), year of registration, specialisation, state of registration and any reported disciplinary action. Foreign-qualified dentists who passed the Foreign Dental Screening Test additionally appear in the register under reciprocity provisions.
