GATE 2026 is the national-level eligibility-cum-entrance examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and seven IITs on a rotational basis for admission to M.Tech / M.E. / MS by Research / Direct PhD programmes at IITs, IISc, NITs and IIITs. GATE scores are also used by 60+ Maharatna and Navratna PSUs for executive recruitment. The exam runs in 30 papers across engineering and science disciplines. Counselling and seat allocation are conducted through the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) for IITs and CCMT (Centralised Counselling for M.Tech) for NITs / IIITs. GATE scores are valid for 3 years.
